A Competitions organized by HKSAR Government to celebrate SAR 20th Anniversary. ArchiPie had submitted 3 competition entries and received 2 wins. EKEO completed in July 2017 and Choi Hung, which had been completed between 2017 to 2018.
Design Concept:
Design of artwork is originated from team to respond to the unique history of East Kowloon (Kak Tak, Kwun Tong and Ngau Tau Kwok etc). The Characteristics of artwork could marry the physical sceneries and 3D illusion, in order to blur the boundary between reality and imaginary. Totem is made as a pole and it represents the symbol of the identity and belief of the community or tribe. This concept will be projected on these 18 columns of the Kwun Tong Bypass which will carry the stories of this district; Past and Future, Spatial, Cultural Phenomenon. The columns will be divided into 4 zones and each of them will represent its own theme.
Sited at the Fly the Flyover 01 venue, the murals of squatter houses, proximity of old Kai Tai airport and the early generations of public housings are representing collective spatial memories of the older generations of Hong Kong people which are typical vernacular living environments of the old East Kowloon.
The Murals at the Fly the Flyover 02 venue are featuring sustainability and creativity in the urban spaces with boundless imagination. It echoes to the eco-friendly objectives of the ‘Vessel’ with versions of green work spaces, urban farming, wild animal conservation and green lifestyles.
The Murals at the Fly the Flyover 03 represents performing arts which are the key elements of this area. All varied kinds of young performers would be welcomed to express and entertain.
The Murals at the Fly the Flyover 04 are featuring the nearby piers where workers were commuting during the heyday of Hong Kong Industrial Period versus to the new Kaitak Cruise Terminal. Meanwhile the other murals pay tribute to our industrial successes with the factory workers, the iconic products and garments which Hong Kong had manufactured.
